On April 15, 2025, I completed reading The 5 Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom. Several years ago, I became familiar with Sahil on social media and became a fan. His content was no-nonsense and inspiring for my interest in personal development. When he announced his first book, I preordered two copies in November 2024 and eagerly anticipated their arrival on February 4, 2025.
Reading the hardbound book (I am a fan of Kindle and Audible for many books) with a pen in hand to note inspirations, I gently read the book a little each day, taking time to contemplate further regarding my life. In a separate blog post, I will dive further into the many points that resonated with me. While reading, I was continually impressed with Sahil’s structure, presentation, and stories. The book kept my attention from start to finish, and I was thrilled with the value I gained. Spoiler alert: Sahil’s discussion of our “Life Razor” (Chapter 4) was priceless. I paused my reading and went down the [enjoyable] rabbit hole of defining and discussing my life razor. See my April 2, 2025, blog post, Finding Clarity Through Chaos: How My Life Razor Emerged from Personal Crisis.
The 5 types of wealth discussed in the book are:
- Time
- Social
- Mental
- Physical
- Financial
The specific order starting with Time and closing with Financial resonates with me: Time is our most precious and nonrenewable wealth. Financial matters, discussed last, are appropriate, as while money is essential, we must not lose sight of balancing our other critical areas of wealth. Too often, in our Westernized culture, the focus on material financial success is overemphasized as a barometer of success, and we frequently do so at the expense of our other types of wealth. Think of burnout (Mental), failed marriages and relationships (Social), and deteriorating health over the years (Physical).
This book is a must-read, and I highly recommend it!
